Utopia Music, the Swiss-based music services firm, is changing its executive leadership with the recent exit of co-founder Mattias Hjelmstedt.
The departure was communicated to Utopia staff through a memo sent by newly appointed CEO Michael Stebler and the board of directors on February 1.
Hjelmstedt’s Resignation for Pursuing New Projects:
The memo revealed that Hjelmstedt had tendered his resignation after extensive discussions with board members. He wanted to allocate more time to pursue new projects and challenges.
Stebler acknowledged Hjelmstedt’s contribution to the company and thanked him for making tough yet necessary decisions during the challenging period of 2022.

Stebler acknowledged Utopia Music’s struggles, including job cuts, divestments, and legal actions. He expressed gratitude for the “tough but necessary decisions” that Hjelmstedt initiated in 2022, emphasizing their importance for the company’s survival.
Hjelmstedt stated that the decision to step down was not taken lightly. However, he expressed a deep belief that it is the right move.
He conveyed confidence in Utopia’s continued growth and success, especially under the capable hands of the new management team.

While stepping away from Utopia’s roles, Hjelmstedt assured the staff that he would remain one of Utopia’s biggest fans.
He expressed excitement about witnessing how Utopia would evolve under the new management and extended his cheering support to the team.
Mattias Hjelmstedt, a Swedish entrepreneur, co-founded Utopia Music in 2016. The company experienced rapid growth between 2020 and 2022, acquiring 15 companies, including Musimap, Lyric Financial, and Proper Music Group.
However, this period was followed by downsizing and divestments, leading to changes in leadership.
