Legendary British musician Rod Stewart has made headlines by selling his extensive back catalogue for a substantial sum of close to $100 million (£79.3 million). The deal was brokered with Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists, a company known for acquiring the rights to iconic artists’ music and likeness.

Agreement Details

Under the agreement, Iconic Artists now owns Stewart’s publishing catalogue, recorded music, and a stake in his likeness and image rights. This move aligns with Iconic Artists’ previous acquisitions, which include catalogues from renowned artists such as The Beach Boys, Cher, and Dean Martin.

Stewart’s Statement

Expressing confidence in the deal, Stewart conveyed his trust in Irving Azoff, highlighting their mutual respect and admiration. He expressed satisfaction that his life’s work is now in safe hands with Azoff and Iconic Artists.

Iconic Artists’ Growth

Iconic Artists revealed that it has recently raised over $1 billion (£793.5 million) in capital, earmarked for investing in additional catalogues. This signifies the company’s ambitious plans for expansion and further acquisitions in the music industry.

Trend in Catalogue Sales

Stewart joins a growing list of artists who have opted to sell the rights to their back catalogues in lucrative deals.

This trend includes notable names such as Graham Nash, Justin Bieber, Phil Collins, Genesis, Katy Perry, and Bob Dylan, who have all made similar moves in recent years.

Stewart’s Remark about Ed Sheeran

In separate news, Stewart made headlines earlier this month by commenting on contemporary artist Ed Sheeran, stating that he was unfamiliar with Sheeran’s music.

This comment sparked conversation and speculation within the music industry about Stewart’s awareness of modern artists and trends.

Conclusion

Rod Stewart’s decision to sell his back catalogue reflects a broader trend in the music industry, where established artists leverage their extensive body of work for substantial financial gains. As the industry continues to evolve, such deals signify the enduring value and legacy of iconic music catalogues.
