The Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse song is 20x platinum.
Breaking Records
The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) made a groundbreaking announcement on Thursday, declaring Post Malone and Swae Lee’s hit single “Sunflower” from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as the first song ever to achieve double-diamond certification.
This prestigious title signifies that the song has amassed an equivalent of 20 million sales.
Chart-Topping Success
Originally released in 2018 for the animated superhero film, “Sunflower” quickly ascended to the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 just over two months after its debut on the chart. Notably, it marked Post Malone’s third and Swae Lee’s first No. 1 hit.
Surpassing Previous Records
In November 2022, “Sunflower” surpassed the record set by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” to become the highest certified single in RIAA history, achieving 17x platinum at that time.
Now, with its double-diamond status, “Sunflower” has achieved a remarkable 20x platinum, demonstrating its enduring popularity through streams and downloads.
Recognition from RIAA
Mitch Glazier, Chairman, and CEO of RIAA, lauded Post Malone, Swae Lee, and Mercury/Republic Records for their historic achievement with the first 2x diamond single.
Glazier emphasized how the collaboration between Post Malone and Swae Lee has set a new standard for creative partnerships and infectious collaborations in the music industry.
Post Malone’s Diamond Legacy
Last year, Post Malone solidified his status as a diamond-certified artist, with “Sunflower” adding to his impressive list of diamond-certified singles.
Alongside “Sunflower,” Post Malone has seven other songs that have achieved diamond status, including hits like “White Iverson,” “Congratulations” (featuring Quavo), “Rockstar” (featuring 21 Savage), and “Circles.”
Super Bowl Performance
The announcement of “Sunflower”‘s double-diamond certification comes just ahead of Post Malone’s highly anticipated performance of “America the Beautiful” at this year’s Super Bowl.
The performance, set to take place live from Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, adds another milestone to Post Malone’s already illustrious career.
