“They would make a room out of curtains and things. We had the banks of video racing matches, where you sit, that was around for a bit.”
Bassist Darryl Jones shared that the legendary band, The Rolling Stones, has scaled down their backstage rider requests.
While the band no longer demands extravagant setups like large gaming rooms, they ensure ample food is available, with guitarist Keith Richards’ favorite dish, shepherd’s pie, still on the menu.
Jones reminisced about past setups involving makeshift rooms and video racing games but noted the band’s current preference for a simpler setup.
Metallica’s Experience Backstage
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich recounted an intriguing encounter while serving as special guests at two of The Rolling Stones’ gigs at Oracle Park in San Francisco in 2005.
Ulrich revealed they were instructed not to make eye contact or interact with Mick Jagger as he passed through the backstage area to warm up before the show. This directive left Ulrich disappointed as he had hoped for a more interactive experience with the iconic frontman and the band.
Despite their initial expectations, Ulrich expressed his admiration for The Rolling Stones and their music, highlighting his dreams of joining the band for legendary parties.
However, the backstage experience didn’t quite match his expectations, with limited interaction and only a photo opportunity before taking the stage.
